Terms of Service
Version 2.1 · Effective 14 July 2026 · Replaces "Terms of Use & Privacy" v1.0 (10 June 2026)
These terms are a contract between you and Joshua Camman (ABN 71 163 089 011), a sole trader ("we", "us"), the operator of Shop Chop Chow — the app and website that help households plan meals, manage a shared cookbook, build shopping lists, track the kitchen, and cook together.
We've written these terms in plain English on purpose. They still matter: by creating an account, or by using Shop Chop Chow after being invited into a household, you agree to them. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle your data and forms part of this agreement.
1. Who can use Shop Chop Chow
- You must be 16 or older to create an account.
- Children can be part of a household without an account — an adult can set up a member profile
- Your account. Take reasonable care of your sign-in details — don't share your password, and

email, name and profile photo. We never see your Google password.
2. Your household shares data — that's the point
Shop Chop Chow is built around a shared household. When you join a household (by invite code or join request), the other members can see the household's shared content and some things about you: your display name and profile photo, your email address, your cooking assignments, your per-member serving, dietary and nutrition settings, and — if you pay for PRO — the fact that you're the paying member. Any member can edit those settings, including yours. Don't join a household with people you don't trust with that, and read "What your household sees" in the Privacy Policy before joining.
Leaving a household (Settings → Leave household) removes your assignments and your access. The household's shared content (recipes, plans, lists) stays with the household.
3. The service, and how it can change
We provide Shop Chop Chow "as is" and "as available". We work hard to keep it reliable, but we don't promise it will always be available, uninterrupted or error-free.
Changing the service or these terms. We may add, change or remove features, and we may update these terms — but only for a legitimate reason: to reflect a change in the law, to improve or retire a feature, for security, or to correct an error. We won't use this clause to take away something you've already paid for.
- Material changes: we'll tell you in the app (and by email where appropriate) **at least 14
- If you don't accept, you can stop using the service and cancel. If you've prepaid for a period,

and date above.
Nothing in this clause limits your rights under the Australian Consumer Law (clause 11).
4. Estimates, AI output, allergies and food safety
Shop Chop Chow shows you estimates and AI-generated content. Please apply your own judgement:
- Nutrition figures are estimates, often AI-generated or imported — not medical or dietary
- AI can be wrong. Imported ingredients, quantities, steps, timings, categories, cost
- Never rely on dietary flags for safety. Flags like vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free,
- Storage and expiry are aids to memory, not assurances. Expiry dates are either entered by you

estimates and generated dish photos can be incomplete or incorrect. Check them before you rely on them. AI-generated dish images are illustrations, not photographs of food you'll produce.
dairy-free, nut-free, halal or kosher may be AI-assigned and unconfirmed. If anyone in your household has an allergy, intolerance or religious dietary requirement, verify every ingredient and preparation independently.
or estimated by the app from an item's name and how it's stored. Leftover and pantry tracking helps you remember what you have; it can't tell you whether food is safe to eat. Use your own judgement and applicable food-safety guidance.
These are things we're telling you so you can use the app safely. They don't reduce our responsibilities under the Australian Consumer Law (clause 11) — including our responsibility for errors we introduce ourselves.
The full text lives in our Disclaimers, which form part of these terms.
5. Your content
You keep every right you have in your recipes, photos, notes and plans. We claim no ownership of them.
To run the app we need permission to handle them, so you give us a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide licence to host, store, process, transmit and display that content solely to operate Shop Chop Chow for you and your household. We may sublicense it only to the providers we contract to deliver the service (listed in the Privacy Policy — for example cloud hosting and the AI features you trigger), and only for that purpose.
- Duration. The licence lasts while your content is in the service, and ends when you delete it —
- After you leave. Content you added to a household stays with that household (that's the

shared model in clause 2), and our licence continues for so long as the household holds it. If you don't want that, delete the content before you leave, or export it first.
explicitly choose to submit them. Our own Discover content is created by us.
You promise you have the right to upload what you add — import only what you're allowed to use. Importing a recipe from the web for your own household's use is your call and your responsibility; don't upload content you know infringes someone else's rights.
If content you own appears in our Discover/marketplace section without permission, email us (clause 14) and we'll review and remove it promptly.
6. Acceptable use
Don't misuse Shop Chop Chow. That includes: breaking or circumventing security or usage limits (including AI-call metering), reverse-engineering non-open parts of the service except to the extent permitted by applicable law, scraping or bulk-extracting other users' data, uploading unlawful or infringing content, or using the service to harm others.
7. Free tier, PRO subscriptions and billing

renewal — never mid-period. If you don't want the new price, cancel before renewal.
AI fair-use limits — the actual numbers
AI features cost us money per call, so they're metered. "One AI call" means one request to the AI model — a single recipe import typically uses about three calls (extract, analyse, categorise), and generating a dish image is one. The counter is per household, not per person, and resets at the start of each calendar month.
| Free | PRO | |
|---|---|---|
| AI calls per household per month | 40 | 500, then slowed |
| Hard stop | at 40 | at 750 |
- On free, reaching 40 stops AI features for that month. Everything else in the app keeps working.
- On PRO, passing 500 doesn't stop you — calls are simply slowed down (a short delay each)
- These limits are shown in the app before you purchase (Settings → Subscription → Plan limits),
to discourage automated abuse. A hard stop applies at 750, which is far beyond normal household use; if you hit it, contact us.
and hitting any cap never deletes your data.
Refunds
Your rights under the Australian Consumer Law come first, and nothing here removes them (clause 11).
| Situation | What happens |
|---|---|
| Major failure with the service | You can cancel and get a refund, or keep it and claim compensation for the reduced value. Your choice, not ours. |
| Non-major failure | We'll fix it within a reasonable time. If we don't, you can cancel and get a refund for the unused part. |
| Unused period after you cancel | You keep access to the end of the period you've paid for. |
| Changed your mind (no fault on our side) | We're not obliged to refund, but ask us — for a recent purchase you haven't really used, we'll usually refund it. |
| Charge you didn't authorise | Tell us and we'll investigate and refund it. |
| Consequential loss caused by our failure | Recoverable to the extent the ACL provides. |
Play Store purchases may also be refundable under Google's own policy.
8. Third-party services
Shop Chop Chow is built on services we don't control — including Google Firebase (hosting, authentication, storage), Google Gemini (AI features), RevenueCat and Stripe (billing), PostHog (optional analytics), and the Open Food Facts family of databases (barcode product data, used under the Open Database Licence). Product data from barcode scans comes from those databases and may be inaccurate. Links and imports from external recipe websites are subject to those sites' own terms.
We're not responsible for the acts or omissions of those third parties, but this doesn't exclude our own responsibility — including where we've introduced an error ourselves, for example in how our app extracts, interprets or displays imported or scanned data.
9. Suspension and ending your account
You can delete your account at any time in Settings → Delete account (see the Privacy Policy for exactly what's deleted and what the household keeps), or via our web deletion page at https://shopchopchow.com/delete-account.
We may suspend or terminate an account only for a specific, identified reason — a breach of clause 6, unlawful use, non-payment, or where we're required to by law. If we do:
- We'll tell you the reason, in writing.
- Unless the law or a serious risk of harm prevents it, we'll give you **notice and a reasonable
- You can appeal by emailing us (clause 14), and we'll review it properly.
- We'll give you at least 30 days to export your data (Settings → Export), unless we're legally

prepaid period.
10. Australian Consumer Law — your protected rights
Our services come with consumer guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. Among other things, they must be provided with due care and skill, be fit for any purpose we told you about, and be supplied within a reasonable time.
If the service has a major problem, you're entitled to cancel your subscription and get a refund for the unused part, or to keep it and get compensation for the drop in value. If the problem is not major, you're entitled to have it fixed within a reasonable time — and if that doesn't happen, to cancel and get a refund for the unused part. You may also be entitled to compensation for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage.
Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or modifies those rights.
11. Liability
Subject always to clause 10 (which prevails over this clause):
- We're not liable for loss arising from reliance on estimates or AI output — including
- We're not liable for indirect or consequential loss to the extent the law allows us to exclude
- We are not attempting to cap our liability at the cost of re-supplying the service. Where our

it, and we're not liable for loss you could reasonably have avoided.
liability can be limited by law, it will be limited only to the extent that is fair and reasonable in the circumstances.
our negligence**, or any other liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.
12. Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of Victoria, Australia.
If something goes wrong, we'd encourage you to contact us first (clause 14) — most problems can be fixed quickly. This is not a precondition to your legal rights: you can go to a court or tribunal whenever you're entitled to.
You can also report conduct to the ACCC (which handles reports and enforcement, but does not resolve individual disputes), or take an individual complaint to Consumer Affairs Victoria or your own state or territory's consumer-affairs agency. If your complaint is about privacy, see the complaints section of the Privacy Policy.
